The crisis that emerged ahead of the Iran Freedom Congress (ifcongress.org) organized by the UK-based Iran Freedom Congress on March 28–29 in London, has been partially resolved. The Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), which had previously been invited to the congress but later removed from the program, announced that it has received a renewed invitation.
In a statement on Sunday, PJAK’s Foreign Relations Committee noted that the party had welcomed the initial invitation, but later had its name and representation removed from the program without any clear justification, “contrary to democratic principles.”
Following these developments, many pro-democracy circles and individuals expressed support for PJAK.
PJAK stated that, following discussions with some members of the congress’s coordination council, the decision was reconsidered and a new agreement was reached. Accordingly, the invitation to PJAK was renewed, and it was announced that the party’s main representative would attend the congress and deliver a speech.
The statement also stressed that issues among Kurdish political forces should be resolved on the basis of alliances and dialogue.
The Iran Freedom Congress, established in March and headquartered in the United Kingdom, announced that it would hold a two-session congress in London to discuss Iran’s political future and opposition forces. Just 24 hours before the congress, PJAK—one of the parties within the Alliance of Iranian Kurdistan Political Parties that had previously been invited—was notified by the congress committee not to attend. PJAK had earlier described this action as a “covert intervention.”
Following the renewed invitation, PJAK’s participation in the congress has been confirmed, and the party’s representative is expected to deliver a speech at today’s session.
