Guerrilla units from the HPG (People’s Defense Forces) and YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) continue celebrating Kurdish New Year, Newroz, in the mountains of Kurdistan.
Dozens of guerrillas attended a celebration in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). The event was accompanied by a march, gathering, folklore performances, and songs.
Speaking at the event, one of the guerrilla commanders, Egîd Reşîd, emphasized that they are participating in every aspect of the “Peace and Democratic Society” process initiated by Abdullah Öcalan, stating that the most important issue for the guerrillas is the freedom of Öcalan and that they will continue their struggle uninterrupted until this goal is achieved.
Dilan Hogir, one of the commanders of YJA Star, said: “I celebrate Newroz by saluting the resistance of Leader Öcalan. We learned to celebrate Newroz under all conditions—in the mountains, plains, and cities, regardless of snow or winter—from our immortal hero Mazlum Doğan. With the same spirit, we will continue and enhance the struggle.”
The guerrillas, who continued the ceremony with Kurdish traditional dances until late at night, concluded the celebration with fireworks and slogans.
