During ongoing attacks by Iran-affiliated militias on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), at least six peshmerga fighters have been killed and 45 others injured. The target of the attack was a military site in the Xelîfan area within the Soran district.
According to available information, a base of the 7th Battalion of the 80th Unit of the Peshmerga forces was attacked in the morning with rockets and armed drones. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.
Other targets in South Kurdistan were also struck by rockets and drones. In total, the region was attacked with at least 25 projectiles and drones within 24 hours. Of these, 20 were directed at the province of Hewlêr (Erbil), and five at Sulaymaniyah.
In addition to military targets, civilian facilities were also targeted. Near Hewlêr, the town of Girdecal was hit. A drone struck a camp where families of Peshmerga forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (PDK-I) are living.
A similar attack in the Sûrdaş region near Sulaymaniyah targeted a camp where families of parties from Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) are accommodated.
