The Military Discipline Forces (Hêzên Disîplîna Leşkerî, HDL) in Kobanê launched an operation on Monday to inspect and confiscate weapons within the city. The move follows repeated incidents of unauthorized gunfire in the area.

HDL spokesperson Mîran Kobanê stated that there has recently been an increase in indiscriminate shooting. “That is why we initiated this operation,” he said. “The aim of the measure is to ensure security in the city and, in particular, to protect the civilian population from potential dangers.”

At the same time, Mîran Kobanê emphasized that weapons could still play a role in the event of larger-scale attacks. “If a major attack occurs, civilians can carry weapons and support the forces in defense,” he explained.

The authority responsible for discipline within the military structures called on the population to cooperate with the security units and to refrain from arbitrary use of weapons, such as during celebrations. Those who violate the relevant regulations will face measures.

“Our aim is to prevent harm caused by indiscriminate shooting,” said Mîran Kobanê, adding that the operation will continue until security and stability in the city are ensured.
