Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani sent a message to the historic Newroz gathering in Amed attended by hundreds of thousands on Saturday.
Barzani’s message is as follows:
“Dear brothers and sisters, esteemed participants,
I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the Newroz holiday and the new Kurdish year to you, our valued people gathered here today in vibrant Diyarbakır to celebrate Newroz, and to all Kurdish people.
Newroz is a special holiday for us; it is a symbol of rebirth and the will to live. At the same time, it represents the hopes of a people who have always longed for freedom and coexistence. I hope this holiday brings goodness and peace to everyone.
This magnificent crowd you have formed in Diyarbakır is in itself a celebration of life and beauty; it is a testament to the Kurdish people’s desire for brotherhood and mutual recognition.
As we celebrate Newroz today, we want to emphasize our sincere support for peace. Achieving peace in Turkey is a historic duty and is in the interest of both the Kurdish and Turkish peoples, as well as the entire region. Peace is the only path that will guarantee a bright future for our generations.
We are ancient neighbors and partners in destiny. Our fate and interests are shared. Only through unity and peace can we overcome obstacles and build a dignified life for all.
Here, I reiterate my gratitude and appreciation for all the steps taken so far toward establishing peace. We view these efforts with hope and expect further steps to be taken.
As the Kurdistan Region, we once again express our readiness for all forms of cooperation to ensure the success of peace; we hope for an end to conflicts and the establishment of lasting stability. In these days when the region has endured heavy wars and conflicts, let us all work together to make peace a lasting reality.
Happy Newroz, and may every year bring goodness and well-being.”
