Hundreds of residents in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods of Aleppo, Syria, welcomed Newroz with enthusiasm despite all the hardships and continuing attacks.
Gathering under the slogan “With the spirit of national unity, we will strengthen the Newroz fire,” people lit the Newroz fire and delivered messages of resistance and solidarity. Those attending the celebration gathered around the fire, danced together, and emphasized unity and struggle with slogans.
Residents frequently chanted slogans such as “Who are we? We are Kurds, we are the Kurds of Zoroaster,” “Long live the resistance of Kobane,” “Long live the resistance of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah,” and “One, one, one—the Kurdish people are one.”
During the celebration, it was emphasized that despite the attacks, the will of the Kurdish people cannot be broken and that the struggle for national unity and freedom will grow stronger. The historical meaning of Newroz was once again recalled, showing that the spirit of resistance remains alive in the face of oppression and violence.
Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah, neighborhoods where a large Kurdish population lives in Aleppo, have for many years been among the areas subjected to siege, attacks, and blockade. This year’s Newroz celebration stood out as a powerful expression of the people’s hope and determination to struggle despite all the suffering and losses.
