Amir Karimi, Co-chair of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), issued a statement to mark Newroz.
Paying tribute to the martyrs and guerrillas, Karimi said that “the martyrs fell on the path to Kurdistan’s liberation. The freedom guerrillas are forging a free future for Kurdistan from their defensive trenches.”
Karimi wished a happy Kurdish New Year to all political prisoners, specifically highlighting “Leader Apo” [Abdullah Öcalan] and female political prisoners.” Karimi also emphasized that “this year’s Newroz carries a unique and distinct significance, as the Kurdish people are closer to freedom than ever before.”
Pointing to the popular uprisings in Ilam and Kermanshah, the PJAK Co-chair expressed his “deepest sympathies to the families of the martyrs of these protests” and extended his Newroz greetings to them. In his message, he stressed that this year’s Newroz represents unity and solidarity for the Kurdish nation. He said: “Newroz is the symbol of Kawa the Blacksmith and the dismantling of the fortresses of oppression and tyranny. The only key to victory for all peoples living within the geography of Iran is their comprehensive unity and solidarity with one another.”
Connecting Newroz with the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement, Karimi noted that “for the Kurdish people, Newroz has always inherently been a political event and an arena for resistance, making this year a Newroz of politics and continued struggle. Today, the ‘Women, Life, Freedom’ (Jin, Jiyan, Azadî) movement is recognized across Iran as the ultimate symbol of struggle. Therefore, this year’s Newroz is the Newroz of this movement and the time to realize its demands and ideals.”
