Newroz represents rebirth from ashes and a new life. This reality is once again manifested in every action of the revolutionaries of the Freedom Movement. The fire lit by Kawa the Blacksmith was reignited in 1982 in Amed (Diyarbakır) Prison under the leadership of Mazlum Doğan, and Amed Prison was transformed into a place of defeat for today’s Dehaqs. Kurdish people Abdullah Öcalan further deepened the meaning and value of Newroz with the idea of a free life. His philosophy and ideology are clearly embodied today in the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas in the free mountains. The guerrillas welcome this day, which marks the arrival of a new life, with great enthusiasm.
Guerrillas preparing for Newroz in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) shared their excitement with ANF.
Guerrilla Rênas Bawer stated that they are continuing their Newroz preparations, saying: “We wish Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), our people all around the world, and all peoples a happy Newroz. This day is very important for us. Seeing the recent images of Leader Apo has further increased our excitement and strength. With recent developments, the meaning of this day has grown even deeper. Leader Apo regards this day as an even more meaningful day of struggle for us. On this occasion, we will further intensify our struggle. Through our struggle, we will ensure the physical freedom of Leader Apo and the unity of the Kurdish people in all four parts of Kurdistan.”
Guerrilla Faraşîn Zagros remarked that HPG and YJA Star guerrillas continue their Newroz preparations with great enthusiasm, saying: “The preparations made today are the result of Leader Apo’s efforts and decades of struggle. We are also followers of this struggle and labor. For this reason, we congratulate first and foremost Leader Apo, the martyrs of the revolution, our people, and our comrades who are currently continuing preparations, on Newroz. For the Kurdish people, Newroz signifies uprising, victory, the freedom of Leader Apo, and the unity of peoples. This day should be celebrated as a day of unity, and we are preparing in accordance with this spirit. On this day, the Kurdish people embrace their existence, identity, and culture. The uprisings that take place on this day are considered a symbol of the Democratic Nation, and the people celebrate Newroz in this way across all four parts of Kurdistan. We believe this day will once again lead us to victory. Every guerrilla dreams of celebrating this day together with Leader Apo. We wish all peoples a happy Newroz.”
Guerrilla Mervan Botan stated: “As the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas, we are preparing for Newroz 2026. We began this year with the struggle elevated to its peak by Leader Apo. The images of Leader Apo shared with the public gave us great morale and strength. We are preparing for Newroz 2026 with this enthusiasm. Happy Newroz to Leader Apo and all Kurdish people. Leader Apo’s call on February 27, 2025, initiated the process of Peace and Democratic Society. Within this process, we as militants of Leader Apo, are ready to fulfill all our duties in order to respond to his call. As Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas, we are fully prepared in every respect to ensure the success of Leader Apo’s struggle. Our wish is to live together with him in a free country. To this end, we will carry out the necessary struggle and elevate it further in the spirit of Newroz.”
