Diary of Gurbetelli Ersöz translated into German

The German translation of the diary book “I Engraved My Heart on the Mountains” [Yüreğimi Dağlara Nakşettim] by Gurbetelli Ersöz, one of the editors-in-chief of Özgür Gündem newspaper, has been released.

The work, written between 1995 and 1997, has been published in German under the title “Gurbets Tagebuch – Ich habe mein Herz in die Berge graviert.”

The translation and annotations were prepared by Agnes Alvensleben and Anja Flach, while the cover illustration was created by Sinan Hezer. The book was prepared for publication with contributions from Newaya Jin and published by Weşanên Meyman.

Gurbetelli Ersöz, who served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper Özgür Gündem, was arrested and subjected to torture due to her journalistic activities before taking to the mountains of Kurdistan. In her diary, she documented war experiences, her poems, and reflections on her life. Gurbetelli Ersöz lost her life on October 8, 1997, in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq).

The German edition of the book will be presented to readers at the Newroz event to be held in Frankfurt on March 21. The book will also be available through the publisher’s website.
