Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani said that repair work on the Iraq–Turkey oil pipeline that transports Kirkuk oil to Turkey has largely been completed.
Abdul Ghani stated that only hydrostatic testing remains on approximately 100 kilometers of the pipeline and the work is expected to be completed within a week. After the tests are completed, Kirkuk oil could be sent directly to Turkey.
In the meantime, the resumption of oil exports through the port of Ceyhan was discussed in the Iraqi Parliament.
Abdul Ghani said the pipeline carrying Kirkuk oil to Turkey has a daily capacity of between 200,000 and 250,000 barrels. The plan is to feed oil from the Kirkuk fields into the pipeline and ship it to Turkey.
The Iraqi Oil Minister also announced that tenders have been opened for oil exports not only through the port of Ceyhan in Turkey but also via the port of Baniyas in Syria and the Aqaba route.
It was also stated that oil production in Iraq is currently maintained at around 1.5–1.6 million barrels per day to meet the needs of refineries and power plants.
