The Free Women’s Community of East Kurdistan (KJAR) sent a letter to German Federal Parliament Member Cansu Özdemir regarding Zeynab Jalalian.
The letter said: “Zeynab Jalalian is a courageous woman who has not bowed her head despite the torture she has faced in prison.
She is the first woman prisoner who has not only been deprived of the most basic human rights but has also been subjected to various forms of torture for years and sentenced to life imprisonment. In her letter, Zeynab Jalalian describes these deprivations with the following words: ‘Without a doubt, after living for nearly 20 years in a place like prison, where people are forced to live together under such conditions, it is inevitable to face skin diseases, infections, and psychological problems. The worst part is that the poor nutritional conditions in prison lead to many physical illnesses. Especially when you are a political prisoner, even more restrictions are imposed on you, including restrictions related to healthcare. Although doctors diagnose the need for treatment and medication, no treatment is provided.’”
The letter added: “However, the question is: despite all this pressure, censorship, and torture, what is it that has made Zeynab Jalalian such an important example for women who struggle? Undoubtedly, it is her uninterrupted struggle. Zeynab Jalalian did not fear death threats or prison walls; on the contrary, she placed that fear in the heart of the Islamic Republic. As she herself states, she stands on the right side of history.
Zeynab Jalalian’s uninterrupted struggle over 20 years in a place where ‘speaking about oneself’ is forbidden and taboo has turned into a poem of freedom against the silence of prison cells. For this reason, all of us must become the voice of Zeynab Jalalian. Your message on this matter is related to your responsibility toward all women who seek freedom. As the political sponsor and supporter of Zeynep Celaliyan, you can bring her case to the international agenda.”
