An Italian military base in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) was hit by a rocket last night. In a statement on X, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani strongly condemned the attack in Hewlêr (Erbil).
No one was injured, Tajani said. According to the report, the soldiers took shelter in a bunker.
Italy has around 300 soldiers stationed in Hewlêr, the capital of the KRI, where they carry out military training activities.
Since the beginning of the US-Israeli war against Iran, southern Kurdistan has repeatedly been targeted by drone attacks. The attacks are attributed to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as well as proxy forces of the regime in Tehran.
The governor of Hewlêr, Omed Khoshnaw, said in the morning that there had been at least 17 drone attacks within 24 hours in the KRI. Most of them were intercepted by the International Coalition forces in Hewlêr. Some of them fell in open areas outside the city.
