Drone attack on Komala base in Sulaymaniyah leaves a Peshmerga fighter dead

A base of the Kurdistan Toilers’ Association (Komala) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) was attacked from the air on Wednesday morning. According to information from the organization, one Peshmerga fighter was killed and another was injured.

According to a Komala source who spoke to the Rojnews agency, the attack targeted the party’s camp in the border village of Zirguêz, southeast of Sulaymaniyah. Suicide drones were reportedly used in the attack. Peshmerga fighter Omed Waysi lost his life and another fighter was injured, sources within the organization said. Further details about the attack were not initially disclosed.

Since the end of February, bases of Kurdish parties from Rojhilat (East Kurdistan) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq have repeatedly been targeted by drone and rocket attacks carried out by Iranian forces and proxy militias of the regime. At least four Peshmerga fighters have been killed so far — three Komala fighters and one member of PAK. Around a dozen others have been injured in total.
