Osman: Turkish army builds roads, checkpoints in Southern Kurdistan

Kameran Osman, a member of Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT)-America, shared new information regarding the Turkish army’s military activities in Southern Kurdistan (Başur).

In a statement on the X platform, Osman said that despite the Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) unilateral ceasefire having passed its first year, the Turkish army has begun establishing new bases and checkpoints in the region.

According to Osman’s post, Turkish soldiers set up a checkpoint on 3 March in the Şîva Mêzya area of Keşan village, in the Batîfa subdistrict of Zakho (Zaxo). It was reported that villagers were prevented from reaching their fields at this point and that civilian movement in the area was also restricted.

Osman also said that the Turkish army is constructing a new road between the Koxê Dupişka base and another military base on the Batîfa border. He stated that the road connects Koxa Meleh and surrounding military positions.

Kameran Osman added that although Turkish attacks and bombardments targeting the Kurdistan Region have decreased recently, the Turkish army continues to reinforce its bases and military presence inside Iraqi territory.
