Mahmoud Khalil, Deputy Commander of the Internal Security Forces in Hesekê, said progress has been made on the issue of prisoners and forcibly displaced persons in Syria within the framework of “cooperation between the relevant parties.”
In a statement on the digital platform X, Khalil provided the following information: “Within the framework of joint coordination steps, an agreement has been reached to establish a committee that will monitor the files of forcibly displaced persons and prisoners of war. Accordingly, records and documents related to the prisoners have been shared with the transitional government, and the final procedures are expected to be completed for the release of another group tomorrow (10 March 2026).”
The fighters in question were captured during the withdrawal in line with the withdrawal agreements between the SDF and the Syrian transitional government in certain areas.
Two days ago, SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi announced that the total number of people detained by the transitional government—including civilians—was 1,070.
