Iran bans political prisoners at Lakan Prison from meeting with their families

As attacks launched by Israel and the United States against Iran on 28 February have been continuing for ten days, the situation of political prisoners in Iran is deteriorating amid reports of increasing pressure and threats against detainees.

The Sharifeh Mohammadi Defense Campaign released a statement regarding the situation of political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi, who is held in Lakan Prison in the city of Rasht, Iran.

The statement reported that officials at Lakan Prison have prevented Sharifeh Mohammadi and several other political prisoners from meeting with their families.

The obstruction has caused deep concern among families and the public regarding the safety and health of the prisoners, particularly because some detainees had previously been transferred elsewhere and reportedly used as human shields.

Sharifeh Mohammadi was detained by Iranian intelligence forces at her home in Rasht on 5 December 2023 and was subjected to severe human rights violations in the prisons of Sanandaj and Lakan.

On 4 July 2024, the Rasht Revolutionary Court sentenced her to death on charges of “activities against the regime.” Her sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court on 16 August 2025.
