Kurdish forces deny reports of alleged ground offensive against Iran

International media reports about an alleged ground offensive by Kurdish fighters in northwestern Iran have been rejected by Kurdish organizations. Representatives of several Kurdish forces stated that the reports do not correspond to reality. Earlier, various international media outlets had claimed that Kurdish fighters had launched a military operation against the Iranian regime in East Kurdistan.

The Israel-based broadcaster i24News reported, citing a US official, that an attack on Iranian territory had been confirmed. A journalist from the US outlet Axios also initially stated on social media that he had received confirmation from a senior US official, but later deleted his post. A Fox News reporter wrote on the platform X, citing a US source, that “thousands of Iraqi Kurds” had launched a ground offensive in Iran.

However, a representative of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) told ANF that these claims do not reflect reality. The Kurdistan Democratic Party–Iran (PDKI) and Komala also rejected the reports of such military activities during television appearances. According to the PJAK representative, there are also no indications of movements by forces from South Kurdistan (Kurdistan Region of Iraq) that could be involved in such an operation.

A denial also came from the government of the Kurdistan Region. Aziz Ahmed, deputy head of the Prime Minister’s Office, said in response to the Fox News report: “Not a single Iraqi Kurd has crossed the border. This is completely baseless.”
