The Revolutionary Communist Women issued a statement in which they addressed the latest developments in Rojava, drawing particular attention to the attacks in the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêx Maqsûd) and Ashrafieh (Eşrefiyê) in Aleppo (Halab), as well as the military mobilization around Kobanê.
The statement said that women’s defense forces and local women have been standing guard against the attacks and that defense structures have been organized in the neighborhoods. The statement stressed that women are taking an active role both on the ground and in social life. Violence against women, attacks on funerals, and the images circulating on social media were also strongly condemned.
The Revolutionary Communist Women said they would continue their struggle to protect the gains women have achieved and to strengthen organization, and sent a message of solidarity to women resisting across the four parts of Kurdistan and the Middle East.
The statement said: “We will defend and protect the gains of women. We have a vast world to win. We do not recognize the boundaries imposed on us. We reject the idea that our bodies are battlefields. Just as our knitting became a symbol of resistance, our voice says, ‘we are not afraid’ and our unity will become the symbol of our victory.
From Iran to Palestine, from Iraq to Afghanistan, from India to the entire world, we salute the women who resist. We salute the women who will go on strike this year. Through genocidal, liquidationist, denial and annihilation policies, they seek to guarantee the permanence of the male-dominated world they have created. Our struggle is sacred and profoundly important. We are writing about history. The end of the darkness is light. We will take the light with our own hands.”
