Urgent appeal from the Narges Mohammadi Foundation for prisoners in Iran

In a written statement regarding the situation of detainees and convicts in Iranian prisons, the Narges Mohammadi Foundation highlighted that the ongoing war between Iran, Israel, and the United States poses a major threat to civilians, with children and prisoners being particularly at risk. The statement noted that bombings near Evin and Zanjan prisons have caused serious concern and emphasized that these military attacks endanger the lives of thousands of inmates.

The foundation claimed that the Iranian regime is using the war environment to increase violence and torture against political prisoners and that the lack of transparency in the prison system continues to pose a serious threat. It was alleged that conditions in the prisons have worsened and that guards are closing doors, restricting prisoners’ access to basic necessities.

Prisoners in Karaj’s Kazihesari Prison and Lakani Rasht Prison are reportedly facing food shortages, closure of storage areas, and suspension of healthcare services. Concerns were also expressed regarding internet blackouts and allegations of secret executions.

The foundation called on the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and Médecins Sans Frontières to take immediate action on behalf of the prisoners and demanded that security protocols be implemented without delay.
