World-renowned sociologist and philosopher John Holloway answered questions about Abdullah Öcalan and the ongoing Kurdish-Turkish peace process in Turkey.
Holloway spoke to journalist Erem Kansoy and told him: “I think, of course, that Abdullah Öcalan should be freed. I mean, this step would be partly to correct the great injustice, enough of fighting, enough of oppression. What we need is reconciliation, a reconciliation that recognises different cultures, different traditions, different groups of people.”
Holloway added: “Öcalan’s liberation would be an extremely important gesture in that direction. And I see that Öcalan’s ideas have been spreading throughout the world. I mean, here in Mexico, we are beginning to read them, read his works quite a lot and to discuss them. And I think his ideas are really the basis for establishing a process of mutual recognition, which ultimately has to be based on some sort of communal or communising democracy.”
