Launch of March 8 events in Maxmur

On the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day, the program of events began at the Şehîd Rûstem Cûdî Refugee Camp in Maxmur.

A press statement held in front of the council building under the leadership of the Ishtar Council was read by Axîn Nerexî, a member of the Young Women’s Movement.

Referring to Abdullah Öcalan’s assessment highlighting women’s freedom, the statement said:
“Today, Kurdish women’s braids have turned into a verse of freedom by fighting against all evil. That braid, woven with strength and resistance, is now being re-woven by thousands of women around the world with the slogan ‘We are weaving freedom.’ Kurdish women weave not only for their own freedom but also to defend all women and societies against genocidal killers. This uprising of women has caused fear among those genocidal killers of women and societies. On this occasion, we declare once again on March 8 that we will continue to walk on the line of ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ with women’s determination and strength.”

The statement emphasized that the efforts put forth by Öcalan for women’s freedom would be crowned with victory and continued: “With the spirit created by the braid of the fighting woman, we will build an equal and free world. On this occasion, we celebrate March 8, especially for Önder Apo and for all resistant and hardworking women. As women living in the Şehîd Rûstem Cûdî Refugee Camp, we will further expand our activities on the occasion of March 8 with the spirit of the campaign ‘Freedom for Öcalan, Status for Rojava.’”
