Speaking at the AKP’s weekly parliamentary group meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that the final report adopted by the Parliamentary Commission established regarding the Kurdish issue is not merely a recommendation text.
Emphasizing that the report also carries the character of a historic document, Erdoğan said: “The report, drafted as a result of full democratic maturity, comprehensive consultation, and a political compromise rarely seen in our political history, is not only a recommendation document but also a historic one. It is evident that those who are eager to extract words from the report with tweezers in order to engage in speculation do not serve the well-being of the process.”
Erdoğan added: “The new phase of the process will begin. Our expectation from the other parties is that they continue in parliamentary work the same democratic, conciliatory, positive, and reasonable stance they displayed within the commission. No source of discord has been able to stand in the way of our thousand-year brotherhood. If there are those who attempt to stand against this tide of embrace and affection that extends beyond our borders, that tide will sweep everyone before it and cleanse them from these lands.”
Erdoğan did not make any statement regarding how the new process would unfold.
‘İmralı is administered by the Ministry of Justice’
Erdoğan also commented on the remarks of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, who had said, “The status gap of İmralı must be brought to a reasonable conclusion.”
Erdoğan limited himself to saying, “İmralı is administered by the Ministry of Justice.”
