Groups affiliated with the Interim Damascus Government have surrounded Kobanê since January 20 by closing the roads, and humanitarian and medical aid is not being allowed to enter the city.
The siege is directly negatively affecting healthcare services. While hospitals are experiencing shortages of medicine and medical supplies, drugs used in the treatment of serious illnesses have significantly decreased.
In addition, the decline in baby formula, the inability to produce food alternatives, and malnutrition are putting the lives of hundreds of babies at risk.
The lack of fuel for heating and the difficulties in accessing electricity and clean drinking water are adding to the hardships faced by 600,000 residents, especially displaced people.
Residents are calling for the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors to allow aid to enter the region, stating that the siege violates human rights laws and endangers the lives of the population.
