Teachers from Rojhilat condemn attacks on Kurdish language

The Rojhilat Kurdistan Teachers’ Union issued a written statement on the occasion of 21 February, International Mother Language Day.

The statement emphasized that the people of Rojhilat Kurdistan have resisted Iran for a century in order to protect their national language and identity, saying: “Teachers and human rights activists are essential parts of Kurdistan’s liberation struggle and are confronted by an occupying regime that imposes a single culture and a single language on society.”

The statement also condemned all attempts by Iranian authorities to eliminate the Kurdish language, declaring: “We condemn all inhumane actions by Iranian authorities aimed at restricting and eradicating the Kurdish language, and we reiterate our insistence on education in the mother tongue. We will teach the Kurdish language in all cities of Rojhilat Kurdistan. We are also proud of our young people who see themselves as responsible for their people’s language and identity.”
