Four more Kurdish citizens killed by military-security forces during protests in Iran

Four more Kurdish citizens, including a 15-year-old child, have been killed by military-security forces of the Islamic Republic during the recent protests in Tehran, Mashhad and Rasht, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has reported.

An informed source in Tehran who spoke to the KHRN, said: “Ahmad Khazaei, a 46-year-old citizen from Kermanshah and resident of Tehran, was killed during the protests on Valiasr Street in Shahriar, Tehran Province, on the evening of 8 January 2026, after being shot in the neck with live ammunition by military-security forces of the Islamic Republic.”

According to the source, after learning of his death, his family went to the Kahrizak morgue and identified his body among the bodies of many other victims.

Khazaei was buried at Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in Tehran on 11 January.

A source in Mashhad reported the killing of a 15-year-old boy by state forces to the KHRN and said: “Amir-Hossein Ghardashi was seriously injured on the evening of 9 January 2026 during the protests on Vakilabad Boulevard in Mashhad after being shot in the abdomen and side with live ammunition by military-security forces of the Islamic Republic. He was transferred to Farabi Hospital in Mashhad and admitted to the intensive care unit, where he underwent several major surgeries, but died on 3 February 2026 due to the severity of his injuries and the spread of infection in his body.”

Ghardashi was born on 9 February 2010 and was from Quchan in Razavi Khorasan Province.

Another informed source in Mashhad said: “Mohammad Karbalaei, aged 22, from Shirvan and resident of Mashhad, was killed on the evening of 8 January 2026 on Tous Boulevard in the city after being shot in the side with live ammunition by military-security forces of the Islamic Republic. His family, after several days of searching at Behesht-e Reza cemetery in Mashhad, received his body and buried him at Behesht-e Rezvan cemetery in Mashhad on 15 January 2026.”

An informed source in Rasht also reported the death of a Kurdish citizen from Barehsar and resident of Rasht: “Samad Ahmadi was killed on the evening of 8 January 2026 during the protests in Rasht after being shot in the head with live ammunition by military-security forces of the Islamic Republic. His body was handed over to his family on 10 January 2026 after they were forced to give a written undertaking not to hold a memorial ceremony, but despite threats, the family held the funeral ceremony on 11 January 2026 in the city of Barehsar, Rudbar County. Samad Ahmadi was 40 years old and a father of two children.”

The KHRN has so far documented the deaths of at least 244 Kurdish citizens during the protests in various cities across Iran.
