Iraq received 2,250 ISIS members from Syria, Security Media Cell reports

The Security Media Cell (SMC) announced on Saturday the receipt of 2,250 ISIS members from the Syrian side and the commencement of legal classification procedures for them.

“Iraq received 2,250 terrorists from the Syrian side by land and air in coordination with the International Coalition and through the significant efforts of the security forces. They are being detained in secure, organized facilities,” said the head of SMC, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency – INA, emphasizing “the readiness of the government and security forces to handle these numbers, to ward off danger not only from Iraq but also globally.”

Maan noted that “specialized teams have begun initial investigations and are classifying these individuals according to their level of danger, in addition to recording their confessions under direct judicial supervision. The established principle is to try all those involved in committing crimes against Iraqis and affiliated with the Daesh terrorist organization before the competent Iraqi courts.”

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in continuous contact with several countries regarding the remaining nationalities. The process of handing over the terrorists to their countries will begin once the legal requirements are completed, while the security services continue to perform their field and investigative duties in this file,” he added.
