Kobanê Water Authority: 14 water stations are out of service due to power outage

An agreement signed on January 30 between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the self-proclaimed interim government in Damascus entered into force on February 2. According to this agreement, the blockade of Kobanê was supposed to be lifted; however, no steps have been taken in this direction so far. Meanwhile, the Turkish state is also refusing to allow the entry into Kobanê of humanitarian aid collected by the population of North Kurdistan.

As the siege on Kobanê has been in place for 16 days, the Kobanê Water Authority made a statement in front of the municipality building on Wednesday.

The Co-Chair of the Water Authority, Zozan Xelîl. stated that 14 water stations are unable to operate due to the power outage and that the city of Kobanê and its villages have been without water for around 20 days. She remarked that this situation is endangering the lives of 500,000 people, and drew attention to the fact that promises made by the authorities regarding the restoration of electricity have not been fulfilled.
