Damascus and Autonomous Administration Asayish: Coordination has been ensured

Within the framework of the agreement reached on January 30 between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Transitional Government, a delegation consisting of Internal Security Forces (Asayish) from the Ministry of Interior affiliated with the transitional government arrived in Qamishlo. The delegation had a meeting with the Internal Security Forces of the Autonomous Administration on Tuesday. The parties exchanged views on the procedures that have been put into effect and issued a statement afterward.

Welcoming the agreement, Helime Mahmûd Ebû Bekir, a member of the General Command of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria, said: “We welcome this meeting between the SDF and the Syrian Transitional Government. We are not calling for war, but for peace. We commit ourselves to the full implementation of the outcomes of this meeting.” Ebû Bekir concluded her statement with the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom).

Mehmûd Xelîl Elî (Siyabend Efrîn), one of the commanders of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria, stated that a ceasefire had been established, saying: “The second phase of the talks took place with the transfer of forces to Qamishlo and Hesekê. These transfers were carried out yesterday and today.”

Emphasizing that the work will continue in further stages, Siyabend Efrîn underlined that the primary objective is for the military forces of both sides to return to their main positions. “So far, no obstacles have arisen. We will continue in this manner,” he said.

Nureddin El Baba, an official from the Ministry of Interior of the transitional government, stated: “Today we entered Qamishlo smoothly. We established strong coordination with the Asayish. We thank them for their efforts and for the warm reception.”

El Baba noted that forces affiliated with the Ministry of Interior will work together with Asayish to implement the security arrangements and ensure security in accordance with the agreement.

El Baba continued: “This process has created a positive atmosphere for all parties. The Syrian people needed this. The Syrian people, with all their components, have achieved this. Today, a new page has been opened to build Syria away from conflicts, sectarian rhetoric, and division. Hesekê continues to hold its position as the heart of the country.”

Finally, El Baba expressed hope that all articles of the agreement will be fully implemented.
