Internationalist fighter in Rojava calls for action against attacks

Şahin, one of the internationalist fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), who has been active in Northern and Eastern Syria since 2018, shared his assessment of the latest developments in the region. He said that the gains achieved after the struggle against ISIS are now under threat from multi-layered attacks.

Şahin said he joined the Rojava Revolution in 2018 and took part in the fight against ISIS, adding that after the organization was defeated militarily, different actors entered the scene. He stressed that attacks by Turkish-backed armed groups and newly emerging political dynamics in Syria are targeting the revolution’s gains and noted that this pressure is being directed primarily at the peoples of the region.

The darkness of ISIS is being imposed once again

Şahin said: “We see that the darkness ISIS sought to impose on peoples in Kobanê, Northern Rojava, and Northern and Eastern Syria is being staged once again.”

Şahin said the peoples of the region have mobilized to defend the revolution and life against these attacks, adding that resistance continues despite all forms of pressure.

Targets across the Middle East

Şahin also drew attention to developments across the Middle East, saying that following what he described as a genocidal process in Palestine, attacks targeting Druze and Alawite communities in Syria have intensified. He said these attacks are not isolated incidents but should be understood as part of a broader plan to reshape the Middle East by imperialist powers.

Emphasis on international solidarity

Şahin ended his remarks with a call for international solidarity, saying that people everywhere, from Europe to Africa and from Asia to all corners of the world, must take a stand against what is happening. He said: “Standing with the revolution is the responsibility of every socialist, antifascist, democrat, and all peoples who stand for freedom.”
