The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) released a statement regarding the agreement reached between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Transitional Damascus Government.
In the statement, the agreement was described as “the beginning of a new process of political struggle aimed at moving away from war, stopping bloodshed, and guaranteeing the rights of peoples.”
The statement included the following remarks: “We view this agreement as an important step toward stability, as a development that halts war and opens the door to a political solution based on dialogue and reconciliation, far from the logic of war and exclusion. We emphasize that any serious political solution must guarantee the rights of all components of the Syrian people, foremost the Kurdish people. The rights of all segments that have suffered for decades due to policies of denial and disregard must be secured.
We support this agreement because we trust our political and military administration. Since the beginning of the revolution, our administration has protected our people and our achievements. We believe that the solution must be an internal Syrian one, based on mutual respect and respect for differences. Such a solution has proven on this land that it can preserve internal peace and stand against terrorism.”
The statement noted that the success of the agreement depends on the parties’ commitment to its articles and continued: “The agreement must be implemented on the basis of partnership, responsibility, and guarantees that will not harm the Syrian Democratic Forces. Because the SDF is a national achievement; it has played a decisive role in the defeat of ISIS and in protecting the democratic experience built with great sacrifices and heavy costs.”
The statement also made the following call to the public and to political and social forces: “This agreement must be supported in a conscious and responsible manner. Internal peace must be preserved and all provocative attempts must be prevented. For a democratic future in which dignity, justice, and freedom are ensured for all Syrians, we must strengthen the struggle together with our resisting people, especially those on the front lines of struggle, resistance, and the fight against terrorism. At the same time, we thank our people in all four parts of Kurdistan and around the world, who have turned every field into a field of struggle to protect and support the gains in Rojava. We salute the supportive stance of parties, Kurdish forces, political figures, and states that support peaceful solutions and contributed to the emergence of this agreement.”
