Fighters in Kobanê: These positions will not be abandoned

Despite the announced ceasefire, attacks by the Syrian and Turkish armies and their jihadist proxy forces on Rojava (Western Kurdistan )continue unabated. Kobanê in particular remains one of the main targets of this coordinated offensive on Rojava. But the response from the front lines is clear and resolute: fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) are putting up fierce resistance and inflicting significant losses on the attackers. Reports from the front line speak of destroyed tanks, damaged vehicles, and numerous mercenaries put out of action.

ANF is present at the front and was able to speak with several fighters. The mood among the units is one of clarity and determination. A YPG fighter who remains at his position despite a fresh injury describes the situation as follows: “I wish all my comrades success. This place is non-negotiable. Even if the enemy arms itself, even if we are hit, we will remain. And if we have to advance further, then we will do so. The resistance here cannot be broken. Bijî Serok Apo (Long Live Leader Öcalan).”

Another fighter comments on an incident that caused outrage among the units: a mercenary from the so-called Syrian army had cut off one of the braids of a fallen YPJ fighter—a deliberate gesture of humiliation. The fighter’s response is unambiguous: “Free women are our dignity—that of our people, our movement, our leadership. We would not trade even a single one of her braids for the whole world.”
