Marches and demonstrations against the attacks on Rojava were organized in the Catalan cities of Barcelona and Lleida.
In Barcelona, a march attended by around one thousand people was organized by the Barcelona Berfin Kurdish Organization, the International Defend Rojava Committees, and Women Defend Rojava. Prior to the event, women carried out a braiding action under the slogan “We weave our support for Kurdistan.”
The march stopped in front of the Turkish consulate in the city, where a statement was read. The statement underlined and condemned the role of the Turkish state in the attacks on Rojava.
Activists performed a modern version adapted for Rojava of a song dating back to the Spanish Civil War against the Franco dictatorship. The song included the words “The neighborhoods of Kobane are not alone.”
Participants chanted slogans such as “Long live the resistance of Rojava,” “Kurdistan is not alone,” and “Long live the struggle of the Kurdish people” throughout the city center. The march ended in front of the Catalan Government building, which officially recognized the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in 2021.
In a statement, activists said: “Defending Rojava is defending hope. Once again, ten times again, a hundred times again, and a thousand times again, we will take to the streets to defend Rojava.”
LLEIDA
In Lleida, a demonstration was held in front of the regional government building under the leadership of the Kurdistan Solidarity Group. Participants carried banners reading “Kurdistan is not alone” and “From Kobane to the world, resistance is life.” The action concluded with messages of support for the resistance in Rojava and Kurdistan.
