The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) issued a statement regarding the heavy siege on the northern Syrian city of Kobanê.
The Autonomous Administration made an urgent appeal to the public, local and international communities, stating that the siege of Kobanê poses a real humanitarian disaster threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands of Kurdish citizens.
DAANES pointed out that Kobanê is not just a city, but a symbol of resistance, whose name is etched in the memory of Syrians and the entire world after great sacrifices made against terrorism in the name of humanity. Therefore, the siege and targeting of Kobanê constitute a direct attack on the will of free people and the democratic experiment in North and East Syria, the statement said.
The Autonomous Administration noted that an urgent solution must be found to this catastrophic situation, safe corridors must be opened for the passage of humanitarian and medical aid, the wounded must be treated, and the basic needs of citizens under siege must be met.
DAANES saluted the resistance and unity of the people of Hesekê and all cities in the Cizîr Canton against attacks and threats, stating that this resistance is a sign of the people’s consciousness and determination to defend their land, honor, and democratic projects.
Finally, the Autonomous Administration emphasized that remaining silent in the face of current attacks and threats amounts to complicity, and that urgent intervention is a humanitarian responsibility that cannot be delayed.
