Actions and events for Rojava in Abya Yala

Following attacks on Rojava by HTS–ISIS gangs and groups linked to the colonialist Turkish state, reactions and actions supporting the Rojava resistance began in many parts of the world. Latin America became one of the regions where these actions gained continuity. Across the continent, people are organizing various actions and events to defend the Rojava Revolution.

On the afternoon of January 22, a leading group composed of different community collectives, movements, and social organizations came together in Bogotá. At the meeting, events to show solidarity with the Rojava Revolution, which inspires the world with communal life shaped by the Democratic Modernity paradigm and led by women, and the people-centered structures of Democratic Confederalism, were discussed.

At the Bogotá meeting, the attacks Rojava has faced since January 6 were assessed. Discussions considered these attacks in the context of a potential third world war and the geopolitical transformations within the global capitalist system. Attention was drawn to how the struggle of hegemonic powers for global dominance over energy and trade routes deepens conflicts and wars for the peoples of the world. It was emphasized that voices defending Rojava, and especially the threatened Kobanê, need to be raised more strongly.

As a result of the meeting, a series of solidarity actions was planned to begin on Saturday, January 24, and continue throughout the week. It was noted that various organizations would respond to the internationalist call with a week of actions including poster campaigns, social mobilizations, protests, and cultural events.

Some activists attending the meeting expressed their messages of solidarity with these words:
“From Colombia to Kurdistan; defending Kobanê, defending Rojava, defending Abya Yala; is defending life.”
