Basque coalition EH Bildu issued a statement expressing “deep concern over the attacks of recent weeks against the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, popularly known as Rojava.”
The statement added: “The government in Damascus has engaged in armed confrontations with serious consequences for the civilian population, including the loss of territory and strategic infrastructure, as well as direct violence.
The Kurdish people and the SDF have been an example in the fight against jihadism, and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has been a successful model that must be supported, respected, and recognized.”
The statement continued: “An immediate ceasefire with guarantees is more necessary than ever, as is ensuring the safety and protection of Kurdish civil society. In addition, it is urgent to regain control of the prisons in northeast Syria in order to maintain regional stability and prevent the mobilization of former members of the Islamic State.
From the pro-independence left of Euskal Herria, we urge the international community and multilateral institutions to act with determination and not abandon the Kurdish people to their fate. The only solution must be political and peaceful, and it must recognize the rights of the Kurdish people.
We send a fraternal embrace and all our solidarity to the Kurdish people.”
