Syrian Democratic Council: There is a threat of a return to ISIS terrorism

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) issued a statement warning of the danger of a return to ISIS terrorism.
The statement said: “The regions of Northeast Syria are witnessing a dangerous escalation marked by attacks carried out by radical armed factions operating under the umbrella of the transitional government. These attacks target the Kurdish people and their forces, who were at the forefront of the fight against ISIS and played a decisive role in its defeat.

The execution of fighters from the Women’s Protection Units after their capture, along with the release of ISIS militants, constitutes a reproduction of terrorism and poses a direct threat to regional and international security. Such actions raise serious concerns about the possibility of new massacres similar to those committed against Alawites, Druze, and Kurds in Aleppo.”

The statement added: “Today, the city of Kobanê is facing a direct threat. Kobanê stands as a global symbol of resistance against ISIS and marks the beginning of its collapse. Any attack on Kobanê constitutes a violation of democratic values, freedom, and the will of free peoples in Syria, the region, and the world. It also represents an act of retaliation against those who defeated terrorism.

The targeting of Kobanê cannot be separated from the broader targeting of northeastern Syria in all its diversity, including Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs, and Assyrians. This exclusionary assault seeks to undermine coexistence and prevent the emergence of a free and democratic Syria.”

The statement continued: “Today, supporting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is not merely a political choice. It is a moral and humanitarian responsibility aimed at preventing the resurgence of terrorism, protecting civilians, and preserving stability. Ignoring these dangers will inevitably allow terrorism to once again threaten global security.

The Syrian Democratic Council reaffirms its commitment to dialogue and negotiation between the interim government and the SDF. At the same time, it strongly condemns the brutal actions carried out by the Damascus authority’s forces, which reject dialogue and peaceful solutions. In light of the interim government’s insistence on military approaches, the MSD emphasizes the necessity of continuing legitimate resistance in defense of freedom and dignity. It also stresses the pursuit of a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria that is safe for all its people.”
