EU: Military attacks in Syria must stop immediately

The European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas called for an immediate halt to all military activities in Syria.

Kaja Kallas remarked the ceasefire between the Syrian interim government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is an important step toward preventing the country’s collapse, adding that commitments to de-escalation must be upheld and civilians protected.

Kallas stated the European Union’s core objective is to ensure an inclusive and genuine political transition in Syria. She said this goal can only be achieved through the integration of military and security institutions with civilian structures within state institutions, alongside active and meaningful political and local participation.

“Protecting Kurdish rights is a matter of critical importance,” Kallas said and added that lasting stability and unity in Syria depend on a sustained commitment to a political solution.
