SDF commander Berxwedan: The “Second Kobanê Resistance” has begun in Northern and Eastern Syria

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander, Mehmûd Berxwedan, shared his assessment of recent developments in Northern and Eastern Syria in an audio recording released by the SDF Media Center.

Commander Berxwedan said that today’s events are a continuation of the attacks launched against the people on 6 January, adding that the current phase represents the start of a new resistance process referred to as the “Second Kobanê Resistance.”

Reminding that the SDF has repeatedly sought dialogue to resolve Syria’s problems, commander Berxwedan said that despite this, enemies of the Kurds and of humanity are targeting the Kurdish people’s gains and attempting to destroy their hopes. He stressed that the attacks on the Jazira and Kobanê regions aim to deprive the people of their freedom.

Commander Berxwedan added that resistance is continuing on all fronts and emphasized that the present phase embodies the “Second Kobanê Resistance.” He said that Kobanê is the ancestral land of the people and will never be abandoned, calling on the public to stand alongside their fighters.

Commander Berxwedan added that YPJ, YPG, and SDF fighters “will defend the region by all means and methods,” underlining that this struggle is not only a military process but a war involving the entire society. Noting that a new phase had begun, he concluded that the enemy will be taken by surprise by the resistance and that their attempts to attack will be thwarted.
