KON-MED calls to expand resistance

The Confederation of Kurdish Communities in Germany (KON-MED) described the recent surge in attacks in Rojava as “deeply alarming and a source of grave concern.” The statement said that the Interim Syrian Government, together with mercenary groups such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Syrian National Army (SNA), has been carrying out extensive attacks against Rojava with the support of the Turkish state. It also stressed that the silence of international powers has paved the way for these attacks. KON-MED called on institutions and the public in Germany to stand with Rojava, escalate the resistance, and mobilize public opinion.

The statement said: “We have been following with deep concern and grave anxiety the developments that have taken place in Rojava in recent days. Attacks against Rojava by armed groups such as the Interim Syrian Government, HTS, and the SNA, carried out with the open support of the Turkish state, are steadily increasing. The silence of international powers is paving the way for these attacks.

The attacks first began in Aleppo and then spread to the Deir ez-Zor (Dêra Zor), Raqqa, and Tishrin Dam line. These attacks are part of a planned and comprehensive attempt at siege targeting the Kurdish people. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is displaying strong resistance against all these attacks. However, developments on the ground clearly show that dirty and wide-ranging negotiations are being conducted.”

The statement added: “The mobilization declared by the Autonomous Administration of Rojava demonstrates the extent to which the threat against the people’s existence and their gains has reached serious levels.

As KON-MED, we call on all our institutions, councils, and components in Germany, as well as all our people living in Germany, to stand with Rojava without interruption, to take to the streets in the spirit of Kobanê, to expand the struggle, raise the resistance, and mobilize public opinion.

The Kurdish people defended not only their own existence but all of humanity against ISIS, one of the most barbaric organizations in the world, and paid heavy prices in doing so. We do not accept the international silence now being displayed in the face of these sacrifices.

International powers must stand by the agreements they themselves have led and take a clear and explicit stance against the attacks on Rojava. Otherwise, responsibility for every violation and every crime against humanity that occurs will rest with those who share in this silence.”
