People of Maskanah: We want to live in peace

The city and countryside of Deir Hafer, home to more than 160,000 people, are being bombed by Turkish drones and heavy weapons by militias affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government. Seven attacks have been carried out on infrastructure and civilian homes since yesterday. The attacks have also caused significant damage in the region.

The people living in the town of Maskanah, which is part of the Tabqa Canton, expressed their views on the attacks by militias affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government.

A citizen named Mihemed El Xelîl, stated that he wants peace and security, saying: “I raise small livestock and grow wheat and barley. If I am forced to migrate, I will face great difficulties. There are many families in the same situation.”

El Xelîl continued: “We hope that this crisis will be overcome without war and migration. Every time we leave our homes, it means pain, while staying means attack and suffering.”

A woman named Meryem El Hemed stated that the city’s residents did not want war or displacement, only peace, saying: “Displacement is a great pain. We only want to live in peace and tranquility.”
