96 families displaced from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah arrive in 5 cities in Cizire Canton

On January 6, 2026, Turkish-backed militias affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government attacked the Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyah, and Bani Zayd in Aleppo. The jihadist mercenaries attacked the neighborhoods with 42,000 personnel, tanks, artillery, and armed unmanned aerial vehicles, committing countless violations and crimes until January 11.

Due to the violent attacks and violations, the neighborhood residents were forced to flee. A large portion of the displaced population headed to North and East Syria. The displaced residents left their homes with only the clothes they were wearing. A total of 96 families, comprising nearly 300 people, were resettled in the cities of Qamishlo, Tirbespiyê, Amûdê, Dêrik, and Rimêlan, which are part of the Cizîrê Canton in North and East Syria. Some are staying with relatives, while others are staying in schools.

So far, 78 families have been settled in Qamishlo, 9 families in Derik, 4 families in Amûdê, 3 families in Tirbespiyê, and 2 families in Rimêlan. More families continue to arrive in the region as their neighborhoods remain under a military siege.
