The Foreign Relations Committee of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) released a statement regarding the ongoing brutal attacks of the gangs and mercenaries of the Syrian regime and the Turkish state on the Kurds in Aleppo.
The KCK statement on Saturday includes the following:
“The Syrian regime, together with gangs and mercenaries affiliated with the Turkish state, which is itself actively involved, is openly committing genocide against the Kurds in Aleppo before the eyes of the world. Civilians – elderly, children, and women alike – are being slaughtered. These attacks aim to displace the Kurds and change the demographics. The gangs and mercenaries coordinated directly by the Syrian regime and the Turkish state are committing war crimes by targeting civilian settlements, including hospitals, and by using internationally banned weapons.
The Syrian regime and the Turkish state are propagating the lie that PKK-affiliated forces are in Aleppo and are fighting there as a justification for their joint brutal attacks. This is a big lie and false propaganda to mislead the public and justify their genocidal attack. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defense Minister Yaşar Güler have both laid the groundwork for the war and are personally managing it through false propaganda. Despite the Syrian Democratic Forces repeatedly clarifying that there are no forces affiliated with the PKK in Aleppo, Hakan Fidan and the Damascus regime insist on their false and baseless lies and propaganda. Hakan Fidan and Yaşar Güler’s insistence is a plan to sabotage the ‘Peace and Democratic Society’ process initiated by Kurdish people’s leader, Abdullah Öcalan, which has the aim of renewing Kurdish-Turkish brotherhood and creating a democratic solution to the Kurdish question via Syria. The Turkish state, as the coordinating party in the war, continues its hostility towards the Kurds in Aleppo.
The current attack on Aleppo, which is being jointly coordinated and carried out by the Syrian regime and the Turkish state, is a second ISIS attack, after the Kurds had already broken ISIS’ efforts in Aleppo. Back then, ISIS wanted to massacre and displace the Kurds in Aleppo. The attacks on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh now serve the same purpose. These attacks must be seen as jihadist attacks, a continuation of ISIS, and the decision of the Aleppo People’s Council must be seen as a will to resist ISIS. The Kurds have resisted ISIS and all kinds of jihadist gangs for 15 years, paying a heavy price. This resistance by the Kurds is a great achievement for humanity. It is a moral and ethical duty for the world public to see this, to stand in solidarity with the people of Aleppo, to thwart the dirty plan against the city, and to do what is required.
The support and solidarity shown by all the people of Kurdistan, including Northern and Southern Kurdistan, Makhmur, Şengal [Sinjar], and Europe, is commendable. As the freedom movement, we salute the heroic resistance shown by our people against the forced displacement and genocidal attacks carried out against the Kurds in Aleppo. We believe that all Kurds will unite and continue their support at all levels, intensifying the struggle for the success of the honorable resistance in Aleppo.
We call on all of humanity, especially the UN and the EU, to stand up for this resistance shown by the Kurds against genocide. Otherwise, the silence of international powers is tantamount to approving the massacre. It is the responsibility of all political forces to stop this savagery, which recognizes no international law or rules of war. The peoples of Syria need peace, not war; brotherhood, not enmity; and to create a new, democratic Syria together. All political forces and circles playing a role on this basis will serve regional peace.”
