Kurdish women’s organizations call for support for demonstrators in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan

The Community of Free Women of Eastern Kurdistan (KJAR), ASO – the Kurdish Women’s Organization, the Kurdish Women’s Movement Iran, the Iranian-Kurdish Democratic Women’s Union, and the Free Women’s Movement Kurdistan (Nina) released a joint statement condemning the current situation in Iran and the attacks by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on demonstrators.

As protests have spread rapidly in various cities in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan over the past two weeks, the women’s organizations pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran is once again resorting to violence and oppression to suppress these uprisings, as it has done in the past, with Kurdish areas being particularly targeted.

The organizations described the attacks on demonstrators, particularly in regions such as Malekshahi and Lorestan, as “blatant crimes” and “serious human rights violations” and strongly condemned such actions.

The organizations further stated that women have always been at the forefront of social struggles and have particularly opposed sexist and racist policies. The organizations therefore reaffirmed their support for the struggle of those who have been targeted by security forces in recent demonstrations.

Finally, the women’s organizations appealed to the international community, human rights organizations, democratic institutions, and all forces of freedom not to remain silent in the face of developments in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan, but to provide concrete and effective support for the struggle of the people.
