DAANES: The legitimate rights of Syrians should not be considered crimes or violated

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) issued a written statement regarding the current developments in Syria.

Drawing attention to the importance of preserving internal peace and public rights, DAANES emphasized that the sensitive process in the country must be handled with a responsible approach.

DAANES stated that all Syrians, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political affiliation, have the right to peacefully express their opinions, organize demonstrations, and participate in political life. These rights are legitimate and should not be considered crimes or violated, it added.

The Autonomous Administration stressed that the demand to take part in public spaces and governance processes is a fundamental national right, and must be resolved on the basis of responsible political compromise, free from polarizing rhetoric.

DAANES pointed out that the Alawite community, which has suffered from the policies of a despotic regime for decades, is an integral part of Syrian society. Problems from the past cannot be resolved by reviving old conflicts or blaming social groups, it underlined.

Referring to the attempts of some individuals and groups to re-establish themselves in connection with the former regime or its repressive legacy, DAANES stated that the use of peaceful demonstrations for such purposes does not serve the demands of the Syrian people.

“This approach is not in line with the requirements of the current process. Overcoming this prevailing understanding is a fundamental condition for transitioning to a fair and stable Syria.”

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the political approach of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria is shaped on the basis of the construction of a democracy-based state, free citizenship, accountability, the rule of law, respect for pluralism, and the rejection of hate speech.
