DEM Party: US intervention in Venezuela opens dangerous door

In a written statement, the DEM Party Foreign Relations Commission Co-Spokespersons Ebru Günay and Berdan Öztürk said that “deepening tensions, conflicts, and unilateral interventions in different parts of the world point to a period in which the international order is rapidly eroding. We have witnessed one of the latest and most alarming examples of this process with the military operation carried out by the US administration in Venezuela.”

The statement continued: “This intervention, carried out on the orders of US President Donald Trump, constitutes a clear violation of the founding chart of the United Nations and of international law. It is an unacceptable attack on a country’s sovereign rights, and a usurpation of peoples’ right to determine their own futures through democratic means. The approach that a country should be ‘governed by external powers until a desired administration is formed’ opens an extremely dangerous door not only for Venezuela, but for the entire world.

The declaration that superior military capacity can be used to impose political choices and suppress the will of peoples represents an open threat and a proclamation of lawlessness on a global scale. This stance means the deliberate sidelining of international institutions, multilateral mechanisms, and shared legal norms.”

The statement added: “Venezuela’s energy, natural, and underground resources are not the subject of global power struggles, but the common and legitimate property of the peoples living in that country.

We also warn that the authority vacuum and environment of chaos created by such military interventions have, as proven by historical experience, brought not peace but greater destruction to peoples. Rendering state institutions and administrative structures dysfunctional in Venezuela carries the risk of turning the country into an unregulated sphere of activity and domination for global drug cartels and organized crime networks. This would create a profound security problem that threatens not only the people of Venezuela but the entire region, extending beyond borders.”

The statement said: “On the other hand, responsibility for the long-standing political crisis in Venezuela cannot be reduced solely to external interventions. The Maduro administration’s human rights violations, repression of the opposition, and practices that have narrowed the democratic political space have also driven the country into a deep deadlock. However, the solution to these problems is not military operations, sieges, or externally imposed regime changes.

Lasting stability and prosperity in Venezuela cannot be achieved through authoritarian governance practices or international military interventions. The solution lies in respecting the democratic will of the peoples of Venezuela, guaranteeing fundamental rights and freedoms, establishing the rule of law, and paving the way for an inclusive and peaceful political process.

Peoples who entered the 21st century with hopes for peace, justice, and equality do not and will not accept the claim of those who hold power to rule the world.

As DEM Party, we respectfully declare to the public that we stand with the peoples of Venezuela in their right to democracy, freedom, and a dignified life, and that we oppose all forms of imperialist intervention, military threats, and illegality.”
