‘Hope and Freedom’ rally in Amed postponed due to adverse weather conditions

The “Hope and Freedom” rally scheduled to take place in Amed on January 4, has been postponed to a later date due to adverse weather conditions.

The Democratic Institutions Platform announced that the rally had been postponed in consideration of security and participation conditions.

The statement was made at the Amed (tr: Diyarbakır) Provincial Organization building of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).

Speaking here, DEM Party Provincial Co-Chair Abbas Şahin, referred to the developments that followed Abdullah Öcalan’ February 27 Call for Peace and Democratic Society. Pointing to the work carried out in many areas with great effort in line with the Kurdish leader’s historic appeal, Şahin stated that the rally in Amed was organised to voice the people’s demand for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.

The press statement by the Democratic Institutions Platform said: “The “Hope and Freedom” rally planned for January 4, 2026, has been postponed to a later date due to the most severe winter conditions in recent years. The preparation process for our rally has once again demonstrated that the demand for the freedom of Leader Abdullah Öcalan is widely embraced by all segments of society. In this respect, the planned rally has achieved its main purpose in one sense. We extend our gratitude to our people and our constituent structures who worked tirelessly day and night.”
