KCDK-E calls for solidarity with Alawites in Syria

The Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress in Europe (KCDK-E) issued a statement condemning the attacks against the Arab Alawite community in Syria. The statement said the assaults carried out against Alawites in Latakia and Tartus are the bitter consequences of a monist and exclusionary mindset, stressing that peace among peoples in the Middle East and Syria can only be achieved through unity based on democratic values.

KCDK-E said 2025 has been marked by wars, chaos, and economic crises, adding that racist and right-wing governments and dictatorships have made nature and life unbearable in many parts of the world. The statement noted that the Middle East continues to be a geography dominated by war, bloodshed, tears, hunger, and poverty, and that interventions by international powers in the region under various pretexts have deepened existing crises.

The statement also said underground, and surface resources, water sources, and energy routes will continue to be among the main drivers of wars in the period ahead. It stressed that inter-communal conflicts and gang-like structures deployed by reactionary forces constitute the greatest obstacles to a free and democratic life.

The statement also highlighted Syria’s multi-ethnic and multi-faith social fabric, saying that Druze, Alawites, Kurds, Arabs, Christians, and Muslims share a common desire to live together in equality and freedom. It stressed that these differences constitute a foundation that enriches life rather than dividing it.

KCDK-E said the model of life formulated by Abdullah Öcalan, strengthened by women’s freedom and grounded in the peaceful coexistence of people through democratic values, represents the only viable solution. The statement warned that failing to persist in this perspective would lead to severe historical and contemporary consequences in the form of sectarianism, nationalism, and hostility among people.

The statement said the Middle East has experienced the reality of ISIS in a profound way, noting that these structures, hostile to women, nature, history, and humanity, have carried out dozens of massacres and that their attacks are still ongoing. It added that massacres against Druze, systematic attacks targeting Alawites, and inhumane practices directed at Christians and other faith communities continue unabated.

The statement condemned the silence of the international community in the face of these massacres, which have taken place before the eyes of the world. It said that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which previously acted alongside ISIS, continues this oppression today and tolerates similar attacks. The statement also described the Turkish state’s close relations with these structures, rather than supporting a women-centered, democratic way of life, as a “hypocritical stance.”

KCDK-E said wars, massacres, and genocides bring no benefit to any people as the new year approaches, adding that they lead only to bloodshed and tears. The statement said the Peace and Democratic Society perspective developed by Abdullah Öcalan represents the only solution, noting that if this model is implemented, people can build a shared life based on equality and freedom.

The statement concluded by stressing that the Peace and Democratic Society model, under which Kurds, Arabs, Alawites, and all faith communities can govern themselves together, would provide a lasting solution to existing problems. KCDK-E wished that the new year would bring peace and freedom for the people of the world.
