Armed groups affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government continue to block five roads connecting the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah in Aleppo to other parts of the city to vehicle traffic.
According to reports from the ground, vehicle access to the two neighborhoods is only permitted via the Shihan Intersection and Awarid road. Citizens can enter and exit the neighborhoods using Talit Eşrefiyê, Cizîr, Eşrefiyê Park, and two side roads. Reports say that economic activities in the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods have been negatively affected due to the complete closure of the Lêremon and Cendol roads.
Sources report that groups affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government are obstructing citizens at checkpoints around the neighborhood, conducting body searches and identity checks.
Armed groups affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government targeted the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah with tanks, missiles, and mortar shells on December 22. A woman named Fedwa Mihemed El Kurdî (57) lost her life in the attacks, while 19 people were injured.
