The KCK Committee for Peoples and Beliefs issued a statement to wish Merry Christmas to all Christians.
The statement reads as follows:
“On behalf of our Freedom Movement, which considers it essential that people of any faith live together freely, equally, and fraternally, we celebrate Christmas on behalf of all Christians. We hope that this year’s Christmas will be one of peace, fraternity, and health to the peoples of the Middle East and humanity worldwide.
As Christian peoples celebrate Christmas, humanity as a whole prepares to enter a new year in the Gregorian calendar. On this occasion, we wish everyone a happy new year and hope that 2026 will be a year that brings love, peace, justice, and equality to all peoples. We hope that 2026 will be a year in which the way to solve the fundamental problems of humankind will be paved, that all raging wars will be ended, that poverty will be pushed back, and that the struggle of those who struggle to live their true selves will be crowned with great success.
The Middle East, the region of origin of Christianity and from where it spread, is approaching 2026 with major social problems awaiting resolutions. The peoples are facing a new year of intense struggle with the consequences of the raging war. The suffering, poverty, misery, and loss of life resulting from the war remind humanity of the value of sharing and peace. The world we live in and the problems facing humanity have made world peace and democratic construction a fundamental necessity. In this regard, the perspective of Kurdish people’s leader, Abdullah Öcalan, as presented in his ‘Manifesto of Peace and Democratic Society,’ stands for a way to a solution both for the Middle Eastern societies and for humanity as a whole. The perspective of ‘Peace and Democratic Society’ goes far beyond being a local struggle for peace and liberation; it heralds a new ‘Axial Age’ that can and will ensure the development of world peace and democracy. The solution to the problems experienced by Middle Eastern societies and humanity, the way to overcome crisis and chaos, lies in believing in the perspective of ‘Peace and Democratic Society’ and working and struggling to put it into practice.
We would like to emphasize that, especially for people of faith desiring peace for the Middle East and humanity, developing such a democratic struggle should be regarded as a sacred cause. Working to achieve peace is a common duty for all faiths.
We believe that the most correct stance for all peoples and faiths in this process is to intensify the struggle according to the concept of the ‘Democratic Nation,’ to strengthen unity and fraternity among peoples, and to vigorously pursue the construction of a democratic society everywhere. We believe that the struggle for democracy to be carried out by all peoples, religious communities, women, and youth is the only possible way for humanity to survive.
With this belief, we call on all circles that trust in democracy and stand for human values to respond to the call of Kurdish people’s leader, Abdullah Öcalan, and to contribute to the realization of the ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society.’
We believe that 2026 will be a year in which peace between peoples is achieved, the construction of the democratic society is realized, the struggle for women’s freedom grows and spreads further, and the values of a democratic society and the resistance of peoples equipped with ecological consciousness develop and become widespread.
With these feelings and thoughts, we once again wish all Christians a merry Christmas, especially the Armenian, Assyrian, Syriac, and Chaldean peoples of Kurdistan, and wish that 2026 will be a year of love, respect, peace, and tranquility for all humanity.”
