MSD urges the Syrian transitional government to honor agreements

The Democratic Syria Council (MSD) issued a statement regarding the bombardment targeting the Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsûd) and Ashrafiyah (Eşrefiyê) neighborhoods of Aleppo. The statement included the following remarks: “At this critical stage, which requires the utmost wisdom and restraint and must be approached with a sense of national responsibility, we are following with great concern the bombardment carried out by forces affiliated with the Transitional Government using heavy weapons. As a result of the bombardment targeting the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods of Aleppo, 17 civilians were injured and one woman was killed. This constitutes a serious violation that endangers the lives and property of civilians. We condemn these attacks, which run counter to the requirements of internal stability and peace.”

The MSD said these actions constitute a clear violation of existing agreements, particularly the agreement dated 1 April concerning the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods. The statement said: “Any violation of these agreements not only threatens the security of these neighborhoods, but also negatively affects all efforts aimed at ensuring stability and reducing tensions.”

The MSD called for the implementation of and compliance with the agreement signed on 10 March between the Syrian Transitional Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The MSD urged all parties, foremost the Syrian Transitional Government, to abide by the signed agreements, prioritize Syria’s highest national interests, and work together to protect civilians, strengthen the ceasefire, and support a national political process that will put Syria on the path to peace.

The MSD extended its condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.
